In the vibrant summer of 1998, newlyweds Augie and Dawn on a thrilling journey at a Texas parish! With Dawn leading programming and Augie rocking the music for Life Teen Mass, their passion for empowering teens took flight. In the summer of 1999, they boldly took their teens to a Steubenville Conference, followed by an exciting "work camp" adventure, knowing little about it. This daring duo was ready to tackle back-to-back summer trips – a challenge most youth ministers wouldn’t dare to take on! following summer, Augie set out to find a Catholic experience that blended service, daily Mass, adoration, and the Eucharist, aiming to revolutionize their ministry and uplift their family, teens, and parish. After much prayer, they envisioned a groundbreaking "work camp" any other! Imagine a camp filled with daily Mass, high-energy praise and worship, and four incredible days of serving those in need, all while fostering a family-like atmosphere with fun staff and unforgettable activities! They created a space for prayer, reconciliation, and delicious home-cooked meals, culminating in a night of open mic and fellowship. And thus, the SHINE was born! At SHINE, it’s always been about creating the best week experience centered on faith, family, and friends, rather than being the biggest.
